Better connectivity for a venue with limited options
A motorsport venue located southwest of Sydney approached Galactic after experiencing ongoing internet connectivity and performance issues.
The venue had been reliant on an ageing ADSL connection that suffered from poor speeds and frequent dropouts. Mobile coverage in the area is also limited, creating connectivity challenges for both the business and visitors to the site.
Due to the location, the only NBN service available is NBN Sky Muster satellite. However, the latency associated with the service made it unsuitable for the venue’s operational requirements.
The challenge was to deliver a faster and more reliable internet service while continuing to support the venue’s existing systems and providing a platform for improved connectivity across the site.
Unreliable ADSL, inbound systems, weak mobile
Before the upgrade, the venue’s ADSL connection was delivering approximately:
In addition to the limited bandwidth, regular connection dropouts were affecting the reliability of the service.
The venue also operates an in-house system that provides customers with access to live and historical race results. This system requires inbound connectivity, meaning the replacement service needed to support more than everyday internet browsing and cloud applications.
Poor mobile coverage presented another challenge. Visitors to the venue cannot always rely on their normal mobile data services, creating an opportunity to provide reliable onsite Wi-Fi as part of the upgrade.
The goal wasn’t simply to achieve a better speed test. The venue needed a complete connectivity solution designed around its operational requirements.
Starlink, UniFi and Static IP — built around the site
After assessing the site and its requirements, a solution was developed combining Starlink, managed UniFi network infrastructure and Galactic’s Static IP service.
Galactic Solutions completed the onsite work, including the Starlink installation, network upgrade, configuration and commissioning.
To meet the venue’s requirement for a static public IP and inbound connectivity, Galactic Communications supplied the Static IP appliance and service used as part of the overall solution.
Together, the solution provides:
- Significantly improved internet performance
- Reliable connectivity for day-to-day operations
- Static public IP capability
- Required inbound connectivity
- Continued operation of the venue’s public-facing race results system
- Secure remote access
- Centrally managed networking and Wi-Fi
- Guest Wi-Fi capability for customers and visitors
- Separation between guest connectivity and internal business systems
The solution was designed around the venue’s requirements rather than simply replacing one internet connection with another.
Starlink Connectivity
A professionally installed Starlink service now provides the venue’s primary internet connection.
Starlink provided a substantial improvement over the previous ADSL service while offering connectivity better suited to the venue’s requirements than the NBN Sky Muster service available at the location.
As part of the project, Galactic Solutions installed and commissioned the Starlink service and integrated it with the venue’s upgraded network infrastructure.
Galactic Static IP
One of the key requirements was maintaining a static public IP and inbound connectivity for the venue’s existing systems.
To meet this requirement, Galactic Communications supplied its Static IP appliance and service as part of the overall deployment.
This allows the venue to retain the connectivity required by its public-facing systems while benefiting from the significantly improved performance available through Starlink. The technical implementation remains managed as part of the Galactic solution, without requiring the customer to manage the underlying complexity.
Managed Network Infrastructure
Alongside the internet upgrade, Galactic Solutions modernised the venue’s network using UniFi infrastructure.
The upgraded environment provides centralised network management, security, Wi-Fi and secure remote connectivity.
It also provides the foundation for separate customer Wi-Fi, allowing visitors to access the internet without exposing the venue’s internal business systems. Rather than simply installing Starlink and walking away, the project addressed the broader network requirements of the site.
A substantial difference after commissioning
The difference following installation and commissioning was substantial.
While the performance improvement is significant, speed was only one measure of success. The new solution also allows the venue’s existing public-facing services to continue operating while providing the connectivity required for modern business systems, secure remote access and onsite Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi where mobile coverage falls short
Limited mobile coverage around the venue means customers and visitors cannot always depend on their mobile data connection while onsite.
The upgraded infrastructure gives the venue the ability to provide Wi-Fi connectivity to customers and visitors, allowing them to remain connected even where mobile coverage is limited.
Customer Wi-Fi can be separated from the venue’s internal business environment, providing convenient internet access while maintaining the security of internal systems.
This means the connectivity upgrade benefits not only the venue’s operations but also the experience of customers attending the site.
From 4 Mbps to 250 Mbps — without compromising the systems the business relies on
The venue has moved from an unreliable ADSL service delivering approximately 4 Mbps down and 0.64 Mbps up to a professionally deployed Starlink solution achieving approximately 250 Mbps down and 30 Mbps up during testing.
More importantly, the project addressed the broader connectivity requirements of the site. The venue now benefits from high-performance internet connectivity, static public IP capability, continued operation of its public-facing race results system, centrally managed networking, secure remote access and the ability to provide Wi-Fi to visitors in an area with limited mobile coverage.
Galactic Solutions delivered the onsite connectivity and network solution, while Galactic Communications provided the Static IP service required to maintain the customer’s inbound connectivity over Starlink.
For businesses in regional, semi-rural or difficult-to-service locations, limited fixed-line options don’t necessarily mean accepting poor connectivity. Galactic can bring together internet connectivity, managed networking, Wi-Fi, secure remote access and specialised connectivity services to build a solution around the needs of the business.
